Our results

12902goldstreamBabyBooks1-web.jpgIn 2008 we made the first quantitative study of a early literacy "book bag" program of this scale in North America, and found that:

  • 60.4% of parents read to their babies more as a result of receiving the resource kit.
  • 48% of parents in the study used the library more often (78% of whom use the library once a week or more.)
  • 33.7% joined the library after receiving the resource kit.
  • 91% of parents attended or planed to attend library programs as a result of the program.

The Books for BC Babies program is having a positive and measurable impact on parental behaviour. After receiving the resource kit, more parents and caregivers are reading to their babies, joining the library, attending library programs, and borrowing materials.
