Why we need your help now
For many years, BC educators and community literacy leaders have supported individual Books for Babies programs because they know the difference that early interventions can make.
In 2005, the BC government recognized the importance of developing a province-wide Books for BC Babies and generously provided the funding and resources required to launch and deliver a Books for BC Babies resource to every newborn in BC within the calendar year.
For four years, the program blossomed under this sustained funding and many community based organizations became involved to ensure successful delivery.
In the autumn of 2009, however, Books for BC Babies was informed that funding would no longer be available due to the effects of the economic downturn.
After four years, belief in the program is so strong that organizers and community members will not abandon it.
The newborns of today are still our most important investment for our province’s future success. The effects of losing this program to cutbacks will not be seen for a generation, and the need for early intervention is now.
